Aveda Amenity Property Criteria

Earth and Community Care - Aveda seeks properties with stated commitments to supporting the environment and their local community.

It must be immediately visible to a guest that the property operates with pro-environmental business practices. The property must have a stated/publicized environmental positioning. This would include at least one of the following:
Highlighted environmental initiatives on hotel websites and or promotional materials
Certification in a “green” or “eco” program such as Green Seal, Green Key, LEED, Energy Star, Green Globe (EarthCheck), ISO 14001 (International Environmental Certification)
Hotel/Resort collateral material documenting environmental activities.
Completion of Aveda’s Environmental Review by property management and verification of review by distributor sales team.
Does the hotel have recycling available for newspapers, cans, bottles in guestrooms, public spaces, meeting rooms?
Does the hotel offer towel/sheet re-use programs? Is there collateral highlighting the program in the room/bathroom?
Does the restaurant feature locally grown/organic produce?
Does the property focus on wellness (i.e. spa, fitness facilities, yoga) or does it offer wellness activities through local businesses?
Does the property demonstrate a commitment to their local communities through partnerships with local or national businesses and charitable organizations?

Upscale / Luxury - Aveda seeks properties whose room and property offerings match Aveda’s prestige positioning.

Property must have a minimum of 8 rooms – (inn or lodge vs. bed and breakfast)
Property must be in excellent condition – recently updated and/or exceptionally well maintained – appealing to an upscale clientele with a high-level of customer service
Rooms must have a prestige price point and prestige positioning
US and Canada – Average “rack” room rate of USD $200 or above in major metropolitan cities and resort areas, USD$150 or above all other.
Europe – Average “rack” room rate of GBP/Euro 200 in major metropolitan cities and resort areas, GBP/Euro 150 or above all other.
Preferred – Boutique hotel, chain hotel with unique upscale eco-chic positioning, upscale country inns and resorts
Not Preferred – Condominium resorts (difficult to ensure consistency in rental units), “mass” all-inclusive resorts, small B&Bs
What is the décor, what do the bathrooms look like? Would Aveda products look right on the bathroom shelf? What is their current line of amenities? Is it another upscale brand or mass market?
How would you describe the hotel clientele? Are they the target Aveda Customer?
What is the “hip” factor? (i.e. a 5-star traditional hotel may not be right for Aveda, but a small trendy, green “inn” may be).

Aveda Salon / Spa Opportunity – Is there an opportunity for Aveda business to grow as a result of the hotel amenities partnership? Hotels that have, or are planning an Aveda spa onsite often request Aveda amenities. The decision to open an Aveda Spa/Salon and the decision to approve a property for Aveda amenities are made independently by different teams. As we are notified of new business openings that might lead to amenities partnerships, we will forward them, but the properties must still fit the approval criteria for AMENITIES.

Is the location in close proximity to current or future Aveda distribution points?
Is this an opportunity for referrals or new business for Aveda?
Is the property willing to consider partnering with local Aveda salons/spas?
